Tdap Vaccine Required for Rising Sixth Graders

A state law that went into effect last year requires all rising sixth-graders who have not had a Tdap vaccination since July 2004 to get booster shots by August 25, 2009. Tdap protects children against three potentially life-threatening diseases – tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis (whooping cough). The law requires schools to exclude students who have not been vaccinated. The state has also informed us that appointment cards will not keep children from being excluded from school, so please ensure that your sixth-grader is vaccinated before the new school year begins.

Rising sixth-graders must be 10 years old in order to be vaccinated. You may visit your family physician to get your child vaccinated. Vaccinations may also be obtained at no cost at the Guilford County Department of Public Health. The health department’s phone number is (336) 641-7777. Please feel free to call the main office here at Triangle Lake Montessori for additional information (336) 819-2883.

PTA Urges Influenza Vaccine

Let's Fight Flu Together is an influenza awareness and vaccination campaign designed to urge children, families and members of the community about the risks of and recommendations regarding influenza; and to give them opportunity to get vaccinated against influenza.

With the influenza season fast approaching, receiving an annual vaccination is the best defense in preventing this serious disease. Contact your pediatrician, local drugstore, or Guilford County Department of Public Health at
(336) 641-7777.

For more information about the flu, visit the NoticeCDC web site or NoticeNC Health Info.
